gv200 0 Posted November 15, 2012 OK, so here is my equipment: Toshiba IK WB30A (IP Camera) manual - http://www.toshibasecurity.com/pdf/_manuals/IK-WB30A_UserManual_ver1.00.pdf specifications - www.toshibasecurity.com/pdf/_datasheets/IKWB30A.pdf COMPUTAR T34Z5518 DC-CS (Motorized Zoom Lens) specs/schematic - http://computarganz.com/file.cfm?id=405 photo- http://i.ebayimg.com/t/COMPUTAR-T34Z5518-DC-CS-1-2-5-5-187mm-f1-1-8-motorized-zoom-/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/$T2eC16FHJH8E9qSEUdCSBP-zREH)8g~~60_57.JPG Cop-USA AS20RS485 (PTZ device) manual- http://www.cop-usa.com/images/product/pdf/AS20-RS485.pdf Here's a quick summary of the relevant specs on these devices: IP camera - DC Auto Iris, RS485 (Pelco D compatible) Lens - DC Auto Iris, Motorized Zoom & Focus PTZ- RS485 (Pelco D compatible) So the part that I don't quite understand is how to wire the lens' zoom and focus wires. Do they go to camera or do they go the PTZ device? and then after determining that where exactly do the wires connect? I can't figure it out. The auto iris wiring is pretty straight forward for me I think. The lens comes with a 4 pin plug and the camera has a 4 pin receptacle, no problem there. I don't have the camera or lens in my possession yet, they are coming in the mail but I have the PTZ device already. The idea here is to be able to control all functionality through the included Toshiba software or a 3rd party software suite. Thank you
justincameras 0 Posted November 15, 2012 Back in the 90's when we used the PT unit you bought, wires were run to a J Box provided by the manufacturer. These J boxes had a pc board that was addressed. It had a wired port you brought your RS 485 wires into then individual relay outputs to the PT and motorized zoom. The zoom was ground, zoom in and zoom out so three wires were needed. What you need to find out is if the zoom controlling wires come from the camera, the PT unit, or a JBox you may need to purchase. How are you running your CAT5 /6 cable? I'm thinking you need some more parts, wiring. Has anyone been helping you in designing this?
gv200 0 Posted November 16, 2012 Hi thanks for replying, Today I contacted the Lens & PTZ manufacturer and I think I understand how to do this now. If you look at the schematic for the lens you'll see that it has 4 wires for the focus and zoom functions. The PTZ device has 3 connections for Zoom, Focus, and Common. The Computar rep told me to connect the black focus wire and the red zoom wire from the lens together with the common connection on the PTZ device, the green focus wire of the lens to the focus connection on the PTZ device, and the yellow zoom wire from the lens to zoom connection on the PTZ device. As far as the rest of the connections go- The 4 pin auto iris plug from the lens will connect into the 4 pin female plug on the camera. The Camera's RJ45 will connect to a switch on my LAN The Camera's RS485 ports will connect with the PTZ's RS485 ports. So after all this I expect to control all the functions of the camera, lens, and PTZ through the camera's PC software. It sounds like it'll work to me but I'll have to wait and see since the equipment hasn't arrived yet. If anyone thinks I could be wrong in my wiring please chime in. Horizon 0 Posted November 16, 2012 Hi there Gv200. The wiring from the PTZ to the lens sounds good. One thing you should check is how much voltage the PTZ will send to the lens. The lens motors will only handle up to 8 volts, best to measure before connecting everything together. Nice lens you've got there - 34x zoom! So you're going to use the camera to control the PTZ mount via RS485?
gv200 0 Posted November 16, 2012 Hi According to the rep at Computar the lens can handle up to 12v. She said this was OK and would only increase the speed of the lens' zoom. This was their most knowledgeable rep because the first one didn't have a clue as to what I was asking him. Yeah the lens was $100 brand new off ebay, not bad I thought so I went for it. Also I've already controlled my PTZ through an IP camera I previously owned using RS485. That camera didn't have Night/Day functionality so I sold it. justincameras 0 Posted November 16, 2012 That wiring method facilitates +12 over the lens wires and then a -12 volts to reverse the function. Like was mentioned, meter the terminations before hooking them up.
