dorough 0 Posted November 17, 2012 Our neighborhood amenity center has a 9 camera, 16 channel DVR system recording 24/7. Frequently, people pull into the parking lot at night to do their nefarious deeds. as a result I'm usually calling the police several times a week to come escort them out. I'm looking for a way to simply let the intruders know that they've been spotted and are being watched. Something like a spotlight controlled by PTZ through the DVR comes to mind but I don't even know if such a thing exists. Is this possible? What are some other options that will help me shoo the idiots away?
Kawboy12R 0 Posted November 17, 2012 12v spotlight like power companies mount on their trucks to search for problems? They use remote joysticks and you could control it while watching the dvr screen as long as the spot stayed in the fov.
dorough 0 Posted November 17, 2012 Any idea how I'd turn it on and off?
thewireguys 3 Posted November 18, 2012 If your DVR has trigger outputs you can use them to turn the light on and off.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted November 18, 2012 Depends on how far away you are. Simple if you're in the same building as the spotlight. Use the stock controls but extend the wires. Different building? Good luck. Kind of a redneck solution that'd work in limited applications.
thewireguys 3 Posted November 18, 2012 There are lots of options for turning on and off devices in remote buildings.

Kawboy12R 0 Posted November 18, 2012 There are lots of options for turning on and off devices in remote buildings. You'd know more about that than I would. I was more worried about the up/down, left/right controls to aim the spotlight, but maybe there are some universal PT camera controls that could get hooked into the spotlight wires. I love the idea of a remote control spotlight. Great harmless way to make trespassers nervous. I suppose maybe someone could even use a PT camera mount and put any old spotlight on it. Camera controls might be more precise for long distance aiming than the worklight controls and could be controlled directly from the PTZ controls of the DVR. Consider an automatic audio challenge system with a pre recorded message using public address speakers or a PTZ camera with in built dual IR lamps and white light lamp. For example see http://www.360visiontechnology.com/getattachment/Products/Predator-and-Domes/Predator---IR-Thermal/Pred-WL-090611v4.pdf Either can be triggered by the DVR motion detection function perhaps using one of the fixed cameras for target aquisition.
