the toss 0 Posted December 13, 2012 This section doesn't seem to get a lot of use but I'll try my luck before going elsewhere. My daughter is coming to your sunny shores over Xmas & will be in LA & San Diego. What type of power outlets are used ( 2 or 3 pin) & is it all 120V ? the toss 0 Posted December 13, 2012 Do hotels / houses have both types ? Obviously the three pin one won't go in a two pin socket so the two pin one would be the way to go for phone / Ipod charger.
survtech 0 Posted December 14, 2012 The vast majority of buildings in the U.S. have grounded (3 pin) 120V AC outlets. In most jurisdictions, they are required by code, especially in commercial buildings. Occasionally, you'll find the older ungrounded outlets, mostly in older (pre-1970's) houses. GrouchoBoucho 0 Posted December 14, 2012 the above is true in pretty much all of north america, too. 120v, 60hz is the standard.

survtech 0 Posted December 14, 2012 Disregard Groucho. He likes to confuse things. The examples he gave are rare and only for use in certain specialized applications. 99(+)% of 120VAC outlets she encounters will be either the standard 2-prong plus ground (NEMA 5-15) or 2-prong less ground (NEMA 1-15) and NEMA 5-20 outlets will take standard two and three-pin plugs, anyway. That is, unless your daughter is planning on packing a clothes dryer, plasma cutter or electric oven in her carry-on.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted December 15, 2012 If she doesn't want the plasma cutter I've always wanted one...
the toss 0 Posted December 15, 2012 Apparently the plasma cutter is essential for her hair
