CCTV DVR Live Feed Images Missing?

Recommended Posts

Hi, hoping someone on here can help me on my long and painful path trying to set up a remote CCTV DVR system. I have pretty much FINALLY sorted things out, though now when i access the Web Application Manager I can see the HDD and all of the information details been recorded etc, though can not view live feeds of the images, all of my 4 screens are blank, also when i select to replay saved info on the HDD the file plays on the time bar etc, though again can not see any images? Anyone able to save my sanity on this would be much appreciated

First off, what make and model of DVR? What parts are shown in the menu (software) or manual that need to be forwarded? Second, what ports have you forwarded in your router? Third, did you download and install any ActiveX that is required? Fourth, what operating system are you using on your computer to view the video?

Hi Dennis

Many thanks for the reply, the only information on the DVR or manual is H.264, i have forwarded port 80, i am guessing the port fowarding is working as i can see the DVR over the internet in as far as i can see each of the files that are being recorded and any red flags triggered by motion detect etc. I have adjusted all of the Active X as per other peoples info so that it allowed the Web application manager to open and run the PTZ control software. My computer is running Windows 7 64 bit, all i can not see is the four camera feeds are just black, no image or sound?

It might be a graphic card issue or maybe the remote software doesn't support 64bit, or more likely IE9. Have you tried compatibility mode in IE? Or maybe you have to actually open the video feed windows somehow. Try right clicking on one of the black windows. Does it give you an option to open/close/open all/close all? If so, try open all. Have you tried to view in Chrome instead of IE?

I don't profess to be an "expert" as I hate that term, but for all of the DVR's that I have set up (and I'm sure there's probably an exception someplace) you need at least one more port opened for the video. Sometimes there is a command port to get to the login page, but evidently you don't need that as you are in to the DVR software remotely already. I have seen two other ports that sometimes need to be forwarded. May go by other names, but "media" and "mobile". There are many variables, but surely your owners manual for within the "NET" settings in your DVR "Menu" will tell you what ports you need to forward. I wish I knew what the dvr looks like or some numbers off of it someplace to identify what it is.

You're welcome. Just as a note, if you ever do that again, you can have up to 4 or 5 ports (or ranges) to open.

Example:

HTTP: Port 80 (or 81, 8080,etc.) - Access the DVR

Command: 5050 - Acces the login page

Media: 6050 - Access video on PC

Mobile: 7050 - Access video on phone, etc.

There are other combinations or numbers dependent upon the DVR.
