Suggestions on Existing Cameras.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I used to have some cheap-o PC based DVR system with an 16 Channel Eyemax card that lasted for nearly 5 years which was very surprising. I recently built a New PC with the following specs:

Intel Core i5-3450 Quad-Core Processor 3.1 GHz 6 MB Cache LGA 1155

MSI Computer Corp. DDR3 1600 Intel LGA 1155 Motherboards (Z77A-G43)

Samsung Electronics Extreme Low Voltage 30nm UDIMM 8 Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

NZXT Source 210 -Inches ELITE-Inches Midtower Case with 3.0 USB - White

2 X Western Digital AV-GP 2 TB SATA II Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Internal Hard Drive - WD20EURS

Antec EarthWatts EA-380D Green 380 Watt 80 PLUS BRONZE Power Supply

aVermedia NV6480EXP-E Hybrid DVR Card.

The previous system that was installed also had half-assed power supply option which basically had a AC adapter plugged into the wall with spliced wires connected to them from the cameras to provide power. Now I have the proper power supply which is an ARM Electronics

DCR 16-8-1-1UL- 16 Outputs, 8.4 Amps, Regulated, 12 VDC, Fused, UL Listed. Sorry for the long history about the System.

About the Cameras...

I have 5 of these.

They look like this on the DVR system.

This other camera. (There is a tree branch and some spider webs, So its not clearly visible.)

I also have another one that is on the roof which is not visible and has a broken mount which is just laying there. I is an infrared camera.

I eventually plan on replacing all these camera's but not at the same time. I want to replace them slowly but I do not know which camera's to get. You can see what which one's i would need that require day/night. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Sorry if the pictures don't do enough. If you need any other information that I can get... I will be more than happy to provide.

Sorry for such a long post, and I appreciate all of your help.

-Abe

Nobody seems to be really excited about analog cams here anymore. Even with all of their flaws, the lower end Dahua network cams are so good for the money that it is hard to justify even moderately decent analog cams because the saved detail is just so much higher with the network cams. You've got a hybrid card so that's a good start. What's the budget? I'd start checking the Aver card's compatible IP camera list. For the indoor stuff I'd look at ACTi's new domes. About $200 a pop if you want to experiment with one and see how it works with your Aver. If you aren't adventurous then find something in the supported camera list that preferably has in-camera motion detection. Lots on the Aver list don't. Well, the Aver Nano list anyway. Not sure about their hybrid card. IIRC, Aver wants licensing fees for supporting non Aver network cameras. That might make buying Aver cameras more attractive unless your goal in the future is to migrate to, say, all ACTi (or Axis or whatever) cameras and then use their free software once all of the analogs have been eliminated. I've never looked into Aver cameras so I don't know their image quality, pricing, longevity, etc.

http://www.averusa.com/surveillance/download/IP/NVSeries/IPCameraSupportListv7.0.0.124.pdf That is a list of the IP Camera Support of my card. I would like to start off buying one and see how well it does... Then if it suit's my needs I will buy slowly. My budget would say is 150-200 per camera. I know "You get what you pay for". Do you have any suggestions? See with this card that I have, How would I go about installing IP camera's to this card? what would I need besides the camera itself.

You should just need a switch of some kind to plug the IP cameras into. Plug the switch into your router. Then you need a way to power the cameras. If the cameras are PoE, then a power over ethernet switch will do both data and power over the cat 5 cables.

As far as which camera to use, I get the shivers whenever I look at the Aver IP compatibility list. You want a camera recommendation, but nothing I like, own, or have looked at seriously is on their IP list. Just look down the IP camera Motion compatibility column. It's mostly "no" or dashes. I was looking at Aver hybrids (mostly the Aver Nanos) myself not that long ago so that I could use some of my existing analog cams with some IP cameras to ease my transition. Their compatibility chart scared me off. Any newer cams by anybody I'd heard of weren't on the list. Every camera I seemed to like was either not on the list at all or didn't support motion. I'd recommend talking to your Aver card dealer and get details on what he recommends. You might be fine with lots of different cameras connecting under ONVIF and end up with the computer doing motion detection. You won't be running a huge number of cameras so the computer you bought should have enough CPU power to do the motion detection itself.

For me, totally outside of the Aver IP compatibility issue, I'm happy enough with what I've seen of Dahua, ACTi, or Axis at different price points doing different jobs. All three are easy to find and are common enough that I can ask questions if needed and have a reasonable chance of someone on here being familiar enough with them to give me an answer as long as I don't ask which hybrid they all work well with.

best off understanding the avr ip list. if your saying use dahua why ????? change all his system just to run a budget camera so change his PC (that runs upto 48mp) for a limited dvr.

axis...mobotix..... sony ...pano......cnb are all good ip .....or avers own

if the op has a aver lets help him ........but please since dahua DOES NOT WORK ON ANY other nvr besides its own

I have a great system for the price I paid... I chose Avermedia NV6480 because that is a powerful card. Yeah it may not be the best but it does what I want it to do. And all I need are decent camera's that are compatible with it to provide me with a decent picture. The camera's i have now are garbage and I want to replace them all eventually but slowly. But now I am in need of a camera it be analog or IP to test it out with the system to see if it does the job I want which is to provide a decent image as well as okay zoom if I need to get close up. Any suggestions Tom?

Thanks!!!

Hi. Aver do some good 1.3mp. With audio. Which have never been sold in the US there around the $120 mark. You can get them from the UK

But the aver will run most ip.

Just had the 'net eat a big long post. Can't redo it but I wasn't recommending Dahua, ACTI, or Axis to the OP except for the recommended models on the list. (Three ACTi and two lo-res Axis (a D1 PTZ and an 800x600))

Wondered what the OP's budget was.

This link was a highlight for a 1080P CNB box camera for $100- http://www.camtechsurveillance.com/igc2050f.html Out of stock of course.

And nice hint on the 1.3mp Aver Tom. Good to see something specific from you.
