QCN7001B X 6 from Costco

I found that QCN7001B from Costco http://www.costco.com/Q-See-High-Definition-720p-2-Pack-IP-Cameras.product.100003461.html. It is costing $150 a camera. I need suggestions on NVR for these cameras.

I understand they are POE. If the NVR does not have POE I will need to buy an POE switch to power the cameras. I will need between 4 to 6 cameras.

This NVR limits my option to add more camera in future. For now 4 cameras will do the job but I would like to have option to add more cameras later.

Please suggest NVR for more than 4 cameras and POE solution.

Just buy the 8 channel Dahua NVR, costs under $300 shipped and put whatever drives you want, supports 2 drives. When I tested it for my review, I picked up a 1.5TB drive for $65 at Microcenter.

If I want a dedicated PC acting as NVR what kind of Hardware/software cost we are talking?

I will record 6 Cameras at 10-15 FPS 720P with Motion Set at night time. I believe 4 Indoor Cameras wont be triigering motions and 2 Outdoor may trigger some motion.

The Dahua model is the NVR3208. They also make the NVR3208V which is shaped like a toaster vs. the first one shaped like DVD player. Either way, both work the same way.

 

A PC, you can get an inexpensive PC with an i5 processor, add a seperate drive for recording, maybe 2TB and run NVR+ from Linovision or BlueIris (not many software products support Dahua). Cost for sofware is about $40 for BlueIris, $140 for NVR+, the PC will cost maybe $599 plus the extra drive. You don't need much memory as the software runs 32 bit, so anything over 3GB is a waste.

 

Reasons for getting an NVR is it's easy, it's cheap, lower power consumption. Reasons for getting PC, you can add several more cameras, PC are replaceable without losing software investment, PC's can do other things you may want to run on it, you can always change the software if you don't like it.

 

You will need a PoE switch to power and connect the cameras. I use a 16 port switch that has 8 PoE ports from Zyxel. Newegg carries it for about $110 give or take depending on sales.

The reason I want to avoid buying NVR from a Chinese reseller is because no support or firmware updates. That's why I was thinking going PC. Is there any US seller for Dahua made NVR?

 

They NVR Costco sells with the above cameras is 4 channels and specification says it can record all 4 cameras at 30 fps at 720p. Is it true?

 

I want to buy cameras from Costco. They cost little more than Chinese resellers but I get better support and firmware updates from Qsee.

Any Dahua branded product you buy in the U.S. will come only with the personal guaranttee of the person that sold it to you. Dahua does not sell in the U.S. so no warranty from them. Q-See is a U.S. company that will warranty Dahua made products the sell, not sure what a Q-See NVR costs and they only sell through resellers like Costco and distributors like Ingram Micro.

 

The problem with U.S. Costco is they are very limited on the Q-See products they sell. They only have the 4 channel NVR and it only comes with 4 of the same camera. Costco Canada has a lot more selection.

Don't forget the q-see store. It may not have cheap deals like costco, but looks to be a full selection of their products and they are that much more favorable for support when you buy from them direct.

 

Heh- they are actually way more expensive buying direct it seems.

Ouch they are expensive, full list price, $349 for a camera Costco sells for $150.
