Private School Surveillance, Please Help

Recommended Posts

Good morning folks. I've sifted through about as much of the abundance of information available on this forum and it has come time to ask the experts...

I am in the process of setting up surveillance for a small private school where we'd like to put up about 15 cameras in hallways and some in daycare rooms.

The longest run of any camera I will have will be about 225ft and I have no problem running the cables, etc. All of the cameras will be indoors and we would like to use dome cameras (aesthetics). Minimal lighting would be expected at night, so they would not need to operate in near darkness but that would be nice.

I am thinking analog will be the best way to accomplish what we are hoping for, however I am curious as to the quality to be expected. Quality-wise, how many feet do you think I would be able to go when attempting to identify a person using a 700tvl camera?

It seems that this forum is partial to Dahua-based equipment and I have seen links to SecurityCameraKing... Is this company reliable? Their 16ch mini-series ultimate DVR and 700tvl domes look promising...

I've budgeted about $3k or so... Please help!

I should have mentioned... A professional quoted over 4k for a digital watchdog DVR and honeywell HD41s. I really think that we can do better quality-wise and price-wise if we do it ourselves.

So I am currently considering the following from securitycameraking:

16 Channel Hybrid Ultimate Series H.264 DVR / NVR

and

700TVL Super High Resolution Color Day/Night IR Dome Camera

I am assuming these are Dahua? Can anyone attest to securitycameraking?

While I have not used them Honeywell and Digital Watchdog are brands I see a lot with sales and specials at ADI, and I think they sell a lot of them. Cant comment on securitycameraking but personally Im not a fan of stuff without a brand name on it. Your comment about better quality would lead me to say this would not be better, if anything this would be lesser.

The cost of parts for the install was about $2500-3000 easy, so if you want better shouldnt you be budgeting more for better since your labor is the savings.

Allow me to clarify the professional install quote... It was really about 7k and only included 7 honeywell cameras and the digital watchdog dvr.

^^ that sounds about right. A safe way to ball park pricing for a professional install of analog gear is about $1000 a channel. This includes DVR, camera, cable, power supply and extra parts.
