Armorview baluns

Recommended Posts

I am a CCTV noob and I'm installing a cheap system for my home use. For my install I chose to go with Cat5e cables so I could cut them to length and potentially use them for IP cameras if I chose to upgrade in the future. I went the cheap route and bought a bunch of baluns from Amazon. On a couple of my cameras I see some slight interference. I'm just wondering if I bought the right balun. After looking at the description of the product I'm not sure if I bought just a BNC connector or a balun transceiver. Can anyone tell me if these will do the job or did I just buy a bunch of connectors with no balun features? Many thanks in advance.

Nope, you got the cheapo. Not a real balun. To quote the listing for it "This item is a adapter that use the coaxial cable convert to Camera CCTV BNC twisted-pair. With no Balun." That's why you're getting what most likely looks like shifting moiré patterns.

Kawboy,

Thanks for the response. I was a worried about that. At least I know why I have issues with the resolution. And I'm glad I didn't spend an arm and a leg for those fake baluns. I'll try to return them but if not I'm only out $15. Live and learn.
