Which Lenses to Buy for Q-See QCN7001 Bullet Cameras?

Recommended Posts

I want to get replacement lenses for our Q-See QCN7001 bullet cameras for better viewing angle. Not happy with the standard lens viewing angle especially for our driveway & front door.

Here are some examples I narrowed down to:

http://dx.com/p/2-1mm-160-degree-wide-angle-lens-for-security-cameras-and-webcams-15237

http://dx.com/p/replacement-fixed-iris-lens-for-cctv-camera-1-8mm-47018

http://dx.com/p/replacement-fixed-iris-wide-angle-lens-for-cctv-camera-2-5mm-51865

http://dx.com/p/3-6mm-fixed-iris-lens-for-webcams-and-security-cctv-cameras-44101

http://dx.com/p/replacement-fixed-iris-lens-for-cctv-camera-3-6mm-45189

I did read about M12 lenses being a bit better in quality than DX but their shipping cost to Canada is very high

Any advice will be appreciated!!!

Thank you

First off, any that don't specify 1/3" are probably 1/4", so you should avoid those.

After that, it's a toss-up. 1.8mm is going to be very wide angle, and you'll have a fisheye effect (straight lines will be curved, for instance). It'll cover quite a lot of area, but your pixels per foot will be low, and the ability to ID a person, say, 20' away will be limited.

3.6mm is a popular lens size, and 2.5 will be even wider angle.

When I buy from DX, I tend to buy the more expensive lenses (ie, $5 instead of $3!), and read the reviews to see what other people said. I then buy a couple of different ones, since the cost is so low and the delivery time is long.

Some of the DX lenses have no markings at all, and you'll want to find some way to label them as soon as you get them to avoid confusion.

Another alternative to DX is to look on ebay. I look for metal bodies and glass lenses, as an indicator of slightly higher quality, but just like DX, it's a gamble.

^ Thanks for taking the time to reply!

OK, will confirm that it will fit 1/3". I think I will stick to larger size like 2.1mm or higher which will still be good. I don't mind paying few $ more, just hoping the quality will be good. I could easily buy the more expensive $14 lenses if only they had free shipping to Canada like DX. We always get screwed with shipping charges here in Canada

Try finding a Galaxy reseller. Their website sucks for showing what they stock but they're in Canada and rebrand and sell some Dahua bullets, dvrs, etc. I've seen some of their stock sheets with Dahua stuff listed in local stores. They also sell lenses, so if they don't already know which of their products interchange then I'm sure someone at your local reseller or the main warehouse would be interested in finding out. Check out Smart Vision Direct as well. You should easily be able to find a source that has access to Dahua bullets and lenses in the GTA somewhere.

Thanks for the links!

I did call them but their prices were pretty high so will try ordering the DX lenses for now & see how it goes.

I have 3 of those Q-See Bullet cams which I swapped out the OEM 6mm Mega lense for 3.6mm Mega lense I purchesed from M12lenses. They work great, almost no fisheye, no clipped corners, and the night vidsion IR halo effect is much better.

I would order from them except they are charging over $20 just for shipping!

I will be ordering 2.1 mm & 2.5 mm & few 3.6 mm. I have 6 bullets in total (2 dome).

I want to use the 2.1 mm for my front entrance & 2.5 mm for the driveway. Or is 3.6 mm more than enough?

Thanks machineman, upon your advice I ordered the m12 3.6mm lens and replaced all four cameras with it. No problems, easy install and much better field of view. Glad to have these forums, saved me a lot of money!

Just an update, received my lenses from DX.com & the 2.1 & 2.5 mm DOES NOT fit in the housing cavity (thread is fine) !!!

I am so disappointed, I wish someone would have warned me they would not fit

This is a problem with dome and bullet cams in general, especially compact ones. There's really no good way to tell if a lens will fit until you get it, unless there are accurate dimensions on the seller's site.

I see one of these has user pics with measurements, so it looks like other people had the same problem.
