Just a quick question:

The default setting of my Dahua cameras is to automatically reboot each night at 02:00. I find this a bit odd for several reasons, one is that Linux is normally considered pretty stable (I never reboot my Linux-based Netgear router), and the other is that most embedded devices has a watchdog to take care of rebooting when things go haywire.

So, why does Dahua think that their cameras should have reboot every day? Is that really necessary, or is it them just being overly cautious?

Has any of you tried disabling this auto reboot, and if so, did the camera crash or otherwise become inaccessible at some point?

they do have watchdogs on every equipment, with a timeout of about 2 minutes

but, also, the reboot can be ok if, for example, you have your equipment setted up remotely, with no access, and someone is bruteforcing its passwords (so you are in a lockout situation); and there are more situations than can arise

I haven't had any issues with stability on any of mine. I was also puzzled as to why it was left checked on by default. Just one of the things on my checklist while installing a new camera.

But if someone is bruteforcing the passwords, how can a reboot help? They could just continue the bruteforcing after the camera is back up again? Or am I missing something here?

So you turn the auto reboot feature off, then?

Yeah, I noticed network dropouts every night at 2 am, and that's when I saw the daily reboot feature that I had missed before.

I turned it off, and haven't seen any problems. My 2100 has been running for months with no issues.
