kifaru 0 Posted February 27, 2013 I looking into getting the new Axis P3364-LVE to replace an ACTI camera overlooking the driveway. There are 2 versions of the Axis camera. The 6mm & the 12mm, I was trying to decide which one to use to aim at the scene below. Which version would best cover the below scene? Camera will be mounted about 13feet high The width of the concrete drive is about 17feet (orange line) The driveway length to the edge of the road is about 38feet (red line) road width 27feet (blue line) Width ~67feet (green Line)
olds403 0 Posted February 28, 2013 I have a similar scene and have used an axis pP3364-ve and the p3367-ve in this scene. The 3364 is 6mm. I will say though at night with the 3364 you will not see the end of the drive if you want to id faces. I do not know about this 3364-lve, but did have the tc90c20 on my 3364 and the cost was not worth the hassle as i could not direct the IR into the scene where i wanted it. Its lying on a shelf now. I used a raytec vario which works well on my 3367. If i had to do it all over again i would have looked at one of the avigilon Hd bullets. To see at night you wil need lots of light either white light or ir. Without the raytec my night vision was not that good. Until someone posts real life 3364-lve images, I have concerns about the night vision quality. If its like the tc90c's you can do better with a stand a lone illuminator. I did not want to go this route, but it works. I have one the ebay illuminators on my other 3367, but the 3367 with the raytec blowes it away image wise. Hope this helps..... Kawboy12R 0 Posted February 28, 2013 If it were me I'd get the 12mm version for the driveway. I've got a 6mm P3364VE version covering my driveway. Unless you're likely to need the wider coverage angle (6mm will go to 105 degree coverage and the 12mm will only do 82 degrees at its widest), the 12mm can be a much better distance camera if you find you need it. If you get the 6mm version you'll be adjusted pretty well out to 6mm to cover only that scene and if you ever decide that you want better ID quality at night of folks coming in your driveway the 12mm can give you that extra zoom. I can't comment on the IR quality of the LVE version but the VE version catches license plates easily at night (headlights on or off) to well beyond the length of your driveway in colour mode but can't read them when it switches to B&W because my 940nm IR illuminator whites them out. This is with just a couple of reasonably dim porch lights on. I'll attach a pic from mine to show the field of view of the 6mm version at maximum zoom. The license plate is about 43 feet from the camera. Use the Pelco camera tool and plug in some test values for different fields of view to give yourself a bit better feel for the end results. Remember that the grey area of the field of view cone shows the distance they consider the max for a really good facial ID if you have "recognition: human face" selected. It's not very long. http://www.pelco.com/sites/global/en/sales-and-support/downloads-and-tools/tools/pelco-camera-tool.page
kifaru 0 Posted February 28, 2013 Kawboy12R you may be right, after looking at some sample videos of the P3364-VE (since these would be the closest to the IR versions) for both the 6 & 12mm lens, I would be better off getting the 12mm. Luckly, the unit had not shipped & my supplier changed my order from the 6 to the 12mm.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted February 28, 2013 Hope you're happy with it. I'd like to see some samples of what it is like with the IR going. I still have to find a longer zoom replacement for this spot in my driveway coverage.
kifaru 0 Posted February 28, 2013 Unit should be here late next week, will post samples then

Just curious.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted February 28, 2013 Pretty close. It's just over 6' but under 7' and mounted sideways on the frame of the garage door. Didn't quite work when mounted horizontally on the doorframe because of the joists of the veranda overhead sticking down so it was either sideways or build a little shim or platform to drop it a bit lower. I know most folks want their cams up high to avoid tampering but you get a great view when mounted at head level and I figure if someone's going to play with it, well, they can play with something mounted up higher as well. With it mounted under the garage door framework it's pretty immune to drips, dirt, etc coming down through the decking.
shockwave199 0 Posted February 28, 2013 Gotcha. You got more snow? Our 3' blizzard has been reduced to plow pilings being most of what's left, after warmth and rain. That, and the minefield of potholes to avoid.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted February 28, 2013 We got another good storm the weekend after the big one that buried us and New England. That driveway was drifted in to over 5 feet deep in spots two weekends ago but it's been pretty warm off and on since then. I was away that weekend and that poor snowblower had been kicked out of the garage for lack of room and was buried when I got back. I'm doing some renovations and the garage was full. Now it's frozen in for a while. Good thing it's my spare. Now we're having freezing rain and ice pellets off and on and are due for another 8 inches tonight. kifaru 0 Posted March 15, 2013 I got the 12mm version. I had to adjust the camera to its widest angle. Below is my 1st night shot.
Kawboy12R 0 Posted March 15, 2013 Looks like you picked well. Covers as wide as you want to cover but if you want better ID of folks in the driveway then you can zoom it in some more by sacrificing lawn coverage. If you think you made the wrong choice I'll swap you a P3364VE 6mm for it. I want some more zoom for my driveway.
kifaru 0 Posted March 17, 2013 I have to say, I love this camera. It has very low noise in low light. And of course you can not deny having night shots in color with very low picture noise is undeniably the greatest plus. Lightfinder is definately some great technology. I do have a motion light on the bottom left hand corner of the picture. Nearby, on the far top right hand corner, there is street light. I have even turned off my external IR & as you can see the picture looks great. Below, I have attached a shot from the previous Acti camera The next thing I need to do is set the camera to record locally on a 32Gig SD card, when my 16 Channel Dahua NVR is unreachable. Later at the end of the year or when they are released, I will wait to see how the Acti E84, E86 or PS5 series camera compare My one wish is that Axis produce a similar camera camera that can do 2MP/1080p & also a 9mm version
shockwave199 0 Posted March 18, 2013 How does it do with a person in motion in the shot at night? A short vid clip of that would be nice. Light finder doesn't cause ghosting? And it does seem a bit wide or a high mount. You should confirm you get a decent mug shot at the car with that FOV, if you haven't yet. Looks great, but hopefully not at the expense of movement ghosting.
