rhimbo 0 Posted April 1, 2013 Hello everyone, I'm new to this site... I did read the FAQs but please forgive me if I misunderstood something regarding the correct forum to post for example.... I have the following: Exelon PR-1648 16-channel DVR. Linksys WRT54GS, v6 wireless router My DVR is connected to the router via a Cat 5 cable. According to the DVR manual, I should be able to access the DVR over the Internet by specifying its MAC address in a URL something like the following: http://.dvrlink.net/8080 I have opened up the RTSP port as well as port 8080... no luck. Does this work in fact? Or, do I need to set up DDNS? DDNS seems to work using the dvrlink.net DDNS server (at least I get a "Success!" dialog when I click the "test" button!). If I need to set up DDNS, I guess my next post will be on the Linksys forum or the DD-WRT or OpenWRT forums!! Many thanks in advance....
coolie11 0 Posted April 2, 2013 JUST ASSIGN THE DVR A STATIC IP ON YOUR LAN AND PORT FORWARD THE REQUIRED PORTS IN THE DVR TO THE ASSIGNED IP ADDRESS IN YOU ROUTER.
rhimbo 0 Posted April 4, 2013 OK, I'm showing my ignorance here.... How do I choose a static IP address for the DVR? Do I specify something in the range of 192.168.1.xxx? Does the router then map this internal address to one granted by the "network," that is, the IAP's router (TimeWarner in my case)?
