Ozone 0 Posted April 14, 2013 1. Looking at buying the Acti KCM-5611 for a few weird reasons. One is a mobile ALPR which I will be installing on the front windshield facing outwards. I will increase the shutter speed of the camera to 1/1000 to decrease motion blur. I also will consider adding a IR filter to decrease IR reflection. I wonder how well this will work at night considering im going with one of the best night time quality cameras for the price. 2. Next I am looking at placing a stationary Acti KCM-5611 on a tree outfront of my house(Or just leave the one in my car running to catch plates at night). I wonder if the camera will be able to capture plates moving at a speed roughly 30mph. I assume if I increase the shutter speed and have decent lighting I will be able to capture the license plate. Should I consider a different camera? Is there a way that I can make the Acti KCM-5611 record only in B&W, or will colour be alright for the situation. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. buellwinkle 0 Posted April 14, 2013 You should decrease motion blur by getting as close to inline with the direction of motion as possible which you will be driving behind someone. Going to 1/1000 of a second will not work at night. If you switch to day mode which you can, it will stay in color but you won't get the benefit of IR illuminators. We were looking at an Axis Q1604-E for this but a ACTi KCM-5611 would also be a good choice, especially the 18x zoom as you want to get a tight picture of the license plate area. The only reason we were looking at Axis is there's a company that has an app that runs on the camera to trigger an event off the plate number.
Q2U 0 Posted April 14, 2013 I've been thinking about putting a camera in my car for a while now. But tell me why you are going with a poe cctv survelance camera and not one of the many task specific car-cams on the market?

So your suggest I zoom the camera into where I am most likely to record a license plate. I only plan to record the lane infront of me and then right lane(2 lane highway for example). Or would I be better off just zooming it in on the car infront of me where the license plate will be? I've been thinking about putting a camera in my car for a while now. But tell me why you are going with a poe cctv survelance camera and not one of the many task specific car-cams on the market? I already have a dash cam but am looking to record license plates. I figure an IP camera would be the way to go for this.
