TanquerayG 0 Posted April 21, 2013 I am replacing my hard drives and don't know what is safe to use. The manual suggests, amongst other brand names, Western Digital AV (WD AV). The current drives are WD AV-GP. At present, the WD AV-GPs are the only WD AV model available. I read that these Green Power drives have been known to fail early on some DVRs. And I have noticed the playback will skip ahead approx 5 seconds when changing channels, perhaps from the slower drive speed of the GPs. I am thinking about using WD Black Caviars. What do you suggest? The rule of thumb is replace with the same. And the manual says WD AV. And these drive have lasted about 2.5 years of the warranted 3 years. ssnapier 0 Posted April 21, 2013 I think you can use WD-RED drives without too much worry. As for the operating system, yeah it is ususally flash based and not on the hard drives.
