cctv_survivor 0 Posted November 22, 2005 I'm trying to setup email notification (send a jpeg image) to my gmail account. So in the SMTP server settings I typed "smtp.gmail.com". When I test it, it can never connect to the SMTP server. Do I need to be using this SMTP server or the one from my ISP? Thanks
kandcorp 0 Posted November 22, 2005 try this: In your email client software, under Outgoing mail, set the SMTP server to smtp.google.com. Set the your username is yourgooglemailname@gmail.com and make sure “Use username and password†
cctv_survivor 0 Posted November 22, 2005 I currently don't use an email software client (I have outlook incase I need it). I use gmail exclusively and it is web based so no email client is required with gmail. Are you saying that I need to setup an email client to get this to work? Will all my gmail email go into this email client to be read now? I would prefer to still use gmail web based to read my email. Thanks!
scottj 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Use your ISP outgoing mail server for those settings. Scottj
agian 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Download and setup a local SMTP server and then as smtp server put the 127.0.0.1 (your local machine). This would be very easy!
Thomas 0 Posted November 22, 2005 Unless you know how to administer an SMTP Server, please do not install one. The world has enough spam, setting up another open relay is annoying.
