New Axis M3025-VE...what's the catch for the low price??

Recommended Posts

On May 2nd Axis announced the M3025-VE which is $549 (MSRP) and features include: 2MP, day/night (no built-in IR on this version), outdoor-ready dome, sensor inputs, edge recording. The press release states 'WDR' as a feature although I assume it's the standard WDR (which has performed well based on the reviews I've read).

The price surprised me for what it is so my first thought was "what's the catch?". Any ideas?

Maybe it's cheaper due to the fixed length 93 degrees (as opposed to varifocal)? Or maybe this is just a reflection of keeping with the increases in technology? I know ACTi and others have cameras easily in this price range but this is definitely something new for Axis! I would guess these things will be a hot seller unless there's something I'm not seeing.

I'm guessing that the lower cost comes from the fixed lens and the camera being based on the M30 platform instead of the P33 platform.

No catch except for the above points, it's an external version of the M3005.

Looking forward to testing it and the M3024-LVE!
