Need advice on what to buy.

Recommended Posts

Completely new to the CCTV crowd. I'll give you a brief background of what I'm looking for and a few questions I hope you will answer. Thanks in advance. My wife and I are looking to install a camera system that records, length isn't a priority, but up to a week at least would be nice. The main purpose of this system is protection for our son. He is confined to a wheel chair/bed all day. He has CP, he is unable to walk/talk or complain when something has gone wrong. Most nurses that we have can't pick him up on their own, but they keep trying. He has started to have bruises, abrasions, and scraps across his back and arms. We believe nurses are sliding him across his bed into his wheel chair. In case anyone was wondering, we do provide a lift for them to use, they are just lazy.

Now a simple 1 camera system would be sufficient for this, but a whole security system has been talked about in my house for a few months now, so we thought we'd just get it out of the way. We also have three other children that like to do the, no I didn't game, so some other camera's in the house for security and truth answering would be awesome. We also had an issue a few months back with our propane tank, believed someone had attempted to steal some propane from us, never verified. So inside and outside cameras are what we are looking for. Thinking four outside, and four inside, so at least an 8 channel system.

TLDR: I have no idea what I'm doing, need an 8 Channel system. The different names mean nothing to me, I've seen some more noticeable brands, like a Samsung, but not great reviews. Need a recommendation that can cover all my needs and provide good picture quality, remote access, and up to a week of recording. Would like 4 bullet and 4 dome, but not necessary.

Price point is up to 1k.

Thanks guys.

Can't give specifics as you don't say where you are. I'd be going for a hybrid DVR. IP cameras inside & analogues outside. In my opinion affordable IP cameras in low light & looking further than about 30m are not up to scratch yet.

You may get out of it for $1k if your installing yourself but I doubt it.

Hey there, I think you should go for an ir security camera, as you would need it round the clock. It would help you to get clear video at every point of time. They would also work well in low light, as well.
