If your customer is large enough and you need SMS for multiple employees, then go with the modem purchase and do it that way through their secure network. If it is just a few people, it may be best to have them purchase "credits" from www.ipipi.com and use that method.

In reply to the original post, yes you need a modem. You'll also need a SIM chip from a wireless provider. You should be able to get a model # from Geo Tech Support.

I do not think you HAVE TO HAVE a cellular modem to send SMS messages.

I have found that I can set up my Geo card to send an instant SMS text message via my RoadRunner (TimeWarner), or Sprint smtp mail server using the e-mail notiifcation built into the Geovision software. You just need to send the e-mail to the right addresss of the target telephone.

For example, my Sprint Treo 650 phone email SMS address is:

210xxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com

For a T-Moblie phone it would be:

210XXXXXXX@tmomail.net

Hope this helps.

Smarty, thanks for the idea.

I am a newbie and so far that hadn't occured to me.

I tried it and it works like a champ! I rcv'd the alerts SUPERFAST!

One question though. Geovision allows you to attach an image to the email and this shows up as excrypted garbage on the text.

Is there a work around, that you know, to rcv the entact .jpg?

I'll try it as a .png but doubt it will work.

You guys are talking about two different notification methods completely. What Smarty says does work, however it is not to be confused with SMS (Short Message Service). You are just using email notifications is all.

These are different.

For the attaching the image question when using the email notification to a cellular phone, just disable that feature.
