New System help

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I need some help/advice on a new surveillance system I have been tasked to setup in a warehouse. I am really new to this and have been looking around at a lot of different products and am not sure which brands are better than others.

We want 4 cameras in this warehouse that will run back to a DVR setup in a central server room. 2 cameras will need about a 200ft cable (would there be degradation with coax over that distance?). They want to be able to access the system remotely (web based).

I have about $1000 budget for this project. I have looked at a few systems. Would either of the below work well for this? Thanks!

Just remember any one of those systems you buy you are going to need a roll of RG59 W/ 18-2 or what we call shotgun cable.

You are also going to need BNC connectors, and power pigtails or screw terminals.

You wont have any degredation issues with RG59 at 200FT assuming there is no interference near buy such as high voltage lines.

Also depending on the distance you want to cover you may need more then a 4mm lens.

I don't know what your warehouse environment is like or what the mounting situation is like so it is hard for me to say which system would be better for you.

Thank for the reply.

Is there a different system that you would recommend for $1000-$14000 range? Thanks.

I don't have much knowledge of the package systems available as I don't usually sell packaged systems, we custom build solutions for customers with a range of cameras and recording options.

I would need to know more about the warehouse to provide product details, the last one I did that was about 10 000 SQFT I used 8 Digimerge Box Cameras with 3-12MM lens and wall mount brackets, we mounted most to steel pillars or the walls, then back to a digimerge DH250 with 4TB, power was provided by an 8 input fused 24V power supply box.

Perhaps if you could upload some pictures of the warehouse I could make some better suggestions.

Hi Kawz,

you needed 4 cameras for the warehouse surveillance that will run away with central server room.In this case why don't you try for IR illuminator cameras. They are more reliable, exact pricing can be found out on internet.IR illuminator surveillance cameras are designed as well as they are available in plenty and may be cheap according to your budget.Axton one of the pioneers in this domain can provide you with exact specification and exact pricing and have variety of the range of cameras for security purpose.

What do IR illuminator cameras have to do with the question he asked? Any camera can be run back to a central location. There are many widely available cheap cameras on the market, but I fail to see how this helps answer his question.

He mentioned that he needed four cameras for warehouse.Night vision ir illuminator cameras will definitely have advantage over other normal camers in warehouse. Also ir illuminator cameras will provide good performance in all weathers along with long distance vision with quality image as compared with other normal cameras.

I worked in a warehouse for 6 years, it ran 24/7 and had bay lighting, there was never any need for IR cameras, and a true day/night camera can give the same results, yes night vision (IR) is helpful in low/no light situations, however this does not mean it becomes far superior then every other camera for the simple fact it has IR on it.

I would like to know how you believe IR cameras have an "advantage" over other cameras when placed in a warehouse? Also how does IR make the camera weatherproof? Usually when I want to determine how it will stand up in weather I look for its IP rating such as IP 65 or 67 not whether or not it has IR iluminators on it.

Like I said previously, we need to know more information about the intended application before we can make suggestions, however you seem set on the fact every camera ever installed in a warehouse must have the IR feature included, I guess I should go back to my customers and tell them I have made a mistake and I need to install IR cameras in locations that are lit up 24/7

Typical bullet camera with IR in it, which is actually decent IR for the most part. This shot is in a warehouse with the lights off.

How useful is that? Almost not at all. You either need more serious IR than would be in single cameras, or you need to keep at least a few overheads on, such as this same warehouse from the same camera-

I agree, more info about your warehouse is needed. And I also agree, the opinions expressed above about IR cameras being somehow superior is...nonsense.

Do you just copy and paste this answer to every post? Seems a few months back you have seen every issue and your solution to every issue was to ask a pro. Even if I met the OP for a face to face with little information I can not provide much more then has already been stated.

I guess we all fly by the seat of our pants when we sell our customers something seeing as you seem to think we have no actual knowledge, I guess next time I will have to consult with a pro.
