system question

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

New to the forum here and was looking for some advice.

Here is some background. I have a lake house and would like to set up a system to monitor it. I jumped in a while back and bought some Foscam cameras. Boy was that a mistake. You definitely get what you pay for. I have one indoor PT camera and one fixed outdoor camera. Blue Iris software is monitoring both of them and sending emails to me. I get quite a few false positives because of the camera flickering.

I was in Costco the other day and saw where they had some systems and that got me looking on the internet which led me to this forum. I would like to replace the Foscam cameras and go with something better but don't know where to begin. I can either use the Blue Iris software or get a dedicated box to do the monitoring of them. I don't currently use POE but that seems like a good way to go. One of the Costco systems I saw had POE as part of the NVR. That seemed like a good way to go since I don't have a POE switch but I can get one if necessary.

Soooooo. Should I look for a system (and where) and what brand should I look at? I'm thinking maybe 2 cameras out front and 2 cameras out back would be a good start.

Thanks

Greg

There are quite a few in here with the Swann and Lorex 8ch 4 cam 1080p nvr ip systems from Costco that are happy with them. Personally I have the one made by lorex and I am happy with it. It is user friendly and once it is setup, it just works. Just have to catch them in stock.

That's the one. Do a search on here for Lorex vs Swann nvrs or something like that. There is a ton of good info on the strengths and weaknesses of each product.
