sf1964 0 Posted December 4, 2005 l have a nuvico 16 cam xg model dvr, with 400gig hd, however lam having some difficulty or let me rephrase it would like a simpler user friendly recorder!!Firstly the cd rw will not open so l can archive video to the police.Secondly the recorded picture playback quality is no where near, the viewed camera quality when looking at the monitor in real time. Also the remote view picture quality over the internet(cable modem with dynamic ip)is not too clear at all,and to cap it off if you are a relative novice you cant get good customer support at all!! l am looking to be able to a/ log in to my cameras from home not using or installing software, that l could possibly burn to dvd or cd on my computer at home in a understandable easy format that l could give to police and they could read the disk without special software!! b/very user friendly easy to use interface c/8-9 cam would be fine, l would need 1 month of hd space at approx 8fps 24 hours 7 days, with excellent recorded video image!! sorry for my rant but l would be grateful if a good suggestion for something that would fit these requests as l am ready to change this dvr.l would consider pc based aswell,as l heard the picture quality is better?? ps.the camera and dvr is used in a bar. Thanks in advance. rory 0 Posted December 4, 2005 I cant speak for the DVR you have, but the evidence sharing quality is better on a PC based generally, though the live view is not as clear as a stand alond non PC DVR, unless you are using a DSP card. And if you are going to use an LCD monitor you will loose additional quality. So what you heard is half true and half wrong .. You should be getting great local playback on the DVR, does it have a quality setting?? Make sure it is on High quality, though you wont get a month probably on that, 24/7. unless you drop the frames down. Once again i dont know that DVR, just going by one ones I have used. sf1964 0 Posted December 4, 2005 any suggestions on set ups based on my criteria.l have the monitor and l also have a computer that l could use that is next to the dvr, but l would prefer a stand alone dvr if possible!!
rory 0 Posted December 4, 2005 you could get a PC system with a DSP card and an IR Remote, to control the camera views you only need the IR remote .. even can use a CCTV monitor for high live quality, the IR remote controls the view on that also. This way you can get real time high res video ... and have the higher quality evidence sharing.
sf1964 0 Posted December 5, 2005 rory what is a dsp card and how would controling the cameras with a ir remote relate to my needs?l have a cctv monitor hooked up already to about 5 cameras, all l want is a simple user friendly system with remote access from home that l would say type in a ip number using windows xp to see the cameras on site ,that would be of good quality image wher l could save and burn to dvd or cd for evidence without the police or myself having to load manufacturers software to view the video(opens with media player or winamp etc ) even if the internet image is not great ,l would like quality recorded image stored on site, that l could access on site using a cdrw built, in to the recorder. if you or anyone knows of a quality user friendly package or dvr that would adress this that would be great, because this nuvico has a few issues that l am either not able to figure out or it is just not simple enough for me!! rory 0 Posted December 5, 2005 DSP output from a PC DVR card goes to the CCTV Monitor, the IR remote lets you control the views and camera live views on the CCTV Monitor. if you dont have a local PC monitor, or dont want to use one, you can also use the output from the ATI Video card to the CCTV Monitor B or C (SVHS) inputs, and this gets you playback on the CCTV Monitor locally, in high quality. You would need a PC Monitor initially to clone the view to the CCTV Monitor. Once the system is initially set up with a mouse and keyboard, all you need to use from there on is the IR remote ... so its very simple. For evidence sharing, thats where the PC DVR rules still ... remote or local. Saves in AVI files. No external viewer required. Basically live quality was always an issue with the PC DVR, but when you use a DSP Card Output, and a CCTV Monitor, then the quality is the same in live view as would be on an analogue system, and then you have the best of both worlds as you have the evidence sharing higher quality and more features of the PC based. When i say IR Remote im talking about the GeoVision System i currently use. Rory
