thmaxxer 0 Posted August 2, 2013 Some of you may remember a while back my issues with the Lorex 8 ch NVR system with 6 cams. Long story short my screen will not display the 1+5 format or 1+7 for that matter without a black window for one of the cams. 3+3 and all other formats, no issues. Viewing on ipad/phone 1+5 works great. Contacted Lorex numerous times with no resolution, they just say they are aware of the issue and are working on it. Whatever. So, just got off the phone with Costco and found out that I can return the system for a full refund if I want. So now my dilemma is should I get another Lorex system, the one they are currently offering, which I think is a pretty good deal, or go with the swann. I don't have any issues with the Lorex at all, except for the config issue. But I like the interface, and like the app as well. So other then the previous advantages (possible ptz control and alarm inputs, etc) the swann has over the lorex, thoughts?
Kawboy12R 0 Posted August 4, 2013 I find no use besides play for PTZ at my home. Alarm inputs are excellent if you're going to use them, especially if you're not happy with video motion detection false alerts. Do you think you'll use your alarm inputs and the extra utility will be worth the hassle of yanking all of the wires with your current system and re-running cables? thmaxxer 0 Posted August 4, 2013 I ended up returning to a brick and mortar Costco. And I got the 6 cam lorex system from website. Pulling cables wasn't a big deal as I work for a communications company. I just tied strings on, labeled them and pulled them through. I'm never going to use the alarm inputs so it was a null issue to me. I just couldn't get past the price point of the lorex with 6 cams. As previously mentioned I was very happy with the system I had, it just wouldn't display the 5+1 or 7+1 on my monitors properly. And for some reason it wouldnt update the firmware from locally or ftp. I also didn't want to risk bricking; updating firmware from somewhere else either. So I am anxiously awaiting the new system to come in and check it out.
