mav 0 Posted August 5, 2013 My phone and network service is provided over cable. Given how easy it would be to cut the above ground cable, I'm considering whether it be worth investing in a cellular based solution like the Pep Wave Max BR1 4G LTE. I already have Verizon service, so my monthly bill would likely increase by $20, but I would still receive email notifications in the case where the external network connection has been disabled as well as be able to access the network. A less expensive option might be a 4G mifi hooked to a workstation with some routing tricks, but it's likely a substantial time investment to get it working and I can imagine the potential cost of mistakes as I reroute all network requests over the mifi on accident. I also haven't read about a mifi being used this way, so I suspect there are some issues or the Pep Wave wouldn't be a viable product given the difference in price. Would love to hear any comments from those with experience implementing backup network access in a residential environment.
