Storm 0 Posted August 21, 2013 Hello new to the forms I would like some advice on a security camera system for my home on the outside could anyone recommend a good system for 500.00 or less. I would also like it to include the DVR. Is it also possible to set up the system so only devices connected to my home router can use the remote user log in? Also since the dvr is hooked up to the router does it use a lot of bandwidth? I would like the camera’s to be wired. Thanks for any advice.
BingoRingo 0 Posted October 7, 2013 Hi, You won't find much for this price. I paid a little above $500 a year ago for an analog system, 8 cams + DVR (Q-See) but it was a Costco sale and the regular price was closer to $800. This was also a product near its end of life, as recent systems are now in HD. I've been very happy with the quality of the DVR and the cameras (metal housing!) but there are flaws, so shop around you might find something similar. As for connecting only to the DVR from your router, this is easy, just do not allow the ports to be accessed from outside (you actually have to take actions to do this, so by default most routers will not give you access). As for the bandwidth, if you're only staying on your home network, it will have zero effect on your internet consumption. If your question was about the bandwidth on your home network, it should be marginal (cheap routers will give you 54 Mbps, your DVR shouldn't use more than 5 Mbps in HD, much less in SD).
