fdishpro 0 Posted August 21, 2013 I've been having trouble with my regular baluns ($5.00 a pair), specially at the time of connecting them to the DVRs, they are not easy to handle in tight spots, and very hard to fit into some of the DVR connections. For the last few months I'm buying some other even cheaper (green and black), and so far I have no complaints. Yesterday, another tech friend of mine told me that those baluns are not "really" baluns. That there's no resistance inside, and the impedance of the cable is not converted 75 ohms. So it will over heat the DVR eventually, and potentially will be a lot of trouble in the transmission/reception of the signal. Now I'm really concerned, thinking about going back to all those installations to replace them; not to mention that I have hundreds of those in stock. Have any of you guys used those cheap baluns? If so, what is your experience so far? Thanks in advance.

What is even more surprising is that you have no complaints when using the cheaper ones. If your friend is right then they are just an adaptor ( BNC - cable pair) They perform no impedance conversion and have no LF filtering components. If you are running any reasonable legth of cable your picture should be a mess. They won't affect the operation of your DVR (overheating etc) they only affect your picture quality (multiple ghosting , frame lock etc)
