Voltage Drop Check.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to this forum.... I just want to know how to check if there is a voltage drop in a long distance cctv cable (say 120 mtrs). Also is the any way we can check the Amps at the remote end. Is there any device available for this?

Can anybody help?

- Hitesh

Nothing to it as long as long as you have the camera that you are going to use connected to the line. Monitor the supply voltage at the DVR and then the voltage at the camera. Subtract them and you have your voltage drop. Current wise, connect a DVM in the current mode and connect it in series with one of the power lines, either at the DVR or camera. If the camera is an IR unit, then the tests should be made when in the "dark" mode. If you make the test in the daytime, cover the camera lens end with something that simulates "no daylight" and maximum dark.
