Software Based to Standalone

Recommended Posts

Hi CCTV Gurus,

I currently have 12 ACTI camera (Dome deployed in resort) running NVR on top of Windows 2003. Every month, I need to restart the Windows server as some camera will not be showing on ActiveMonitor.

I am going to add 22 IP Camera (combination of bullet and dome camera models) this year and another 22 next year. I am planning to use ENR-2000 w/ 4x4TB HDD and retiring the current Software base NVR to avoid issues above. I feel standalone appliance will be faster and will not have same issues above (I maybe wrong, please let me know if you have info.).

I am getting 2 ENR-2000 to accommodate 32 IP Cameras. I will get 2 more ENR-2000 to accommodate additional 22 IP Camera next year.

I will be using CMS to manage the viewing requirements of central security officers and few remote.

Based on your experience, is my plan good or which area should I improve?

What are the PRO and CONS of using Software compare to standalone?

Thank you very much and more power to CCTV Forum.

What NVR version were you running. The older NVR2 software relied on Windows IIS and MS SQL Server and has good, but had issues. The new NVR3 software seems more stable and is better all around.
