CISCO CIVS 2900 Failings

Recommended Posts

Hi, I currently have a site with approx 300 CISCO CIVS 2900 IP VR dome cameras installed and am finding that after a period of 6 mths running time that i am having an excessive number of cameras failing - currently i have about 60 out of the 300 that have stopped working. All the cameras on site are fed from HP switches using the POE facility, the units seem to run very hot which i have been told is the norm for a POE camera due to the heat dissipation from 48v and have had the network cabling checked as well by a secondary company to ensure that the cable results were ok.

I know that the cameras are basically Pelco manufactured and re branded by cisco so there should be reliability there but i was wondering has any one else seen such quantity in fails. CISCO have replaced the original cameras under warranty but i worry about the rest of the site as time goes by and units go out of warranty.

Many Thanks,

Wallace

For your remaining cameras, see about getting the firmware upgraded to the latest available version.

Pelco Sarix Cameras use NAND memory, which is better (in theory) but is also newer to developers, and found to be more susceptible to corruption that can cause the camera firmware to fail (but not really a hardware problem). To prevent this, Pelco implemented more robust software-based CRC (error checking) in versions above v1.8.2.
