Securix SME4 from ebuyer

Hi all,

 

Thought I would take the plunge and get a new DVR. I went for the Securix SME4 with 500GB HDD and 4 x 600 TVL cameras for c£300 from Ebuyer.

My findings:

- One of the cameras doesn't work - I have 4 so I will return it for replacement

- Good cable lengths although the cameras all come with individual power supplies

- Silent operation

- Picture quality is pretty good

- No firmware upgrades available on their website

- You cannot use RTSP (e.g. VLC) without reducing the overall quality - this opens port 554

- Like many of these units it only works with the Windows supplied software and IE7+ for "WebGuard" on 12088

- D1 resolution appears to be used for recording (Setting = Very High Quality) however their website suggests only CIF supported - then contradicts itself:

- Initial setup with the remote view appeared really blocky but after changing the schedule recording and the general recording tab I improved this dramatically.

- If you don't have dyndns then they provide their own

- You can't email motion pics - only a link or push message- then you have to review the footage

 

"D1 resolution support for clear recording and playback images"

then

"Recording Resolution CIF : 352x240 (N), 352x288 (P)"

Pretty sure its D1 - however don't expect high frame rates at this resolution.

 

If you own an Apple Mac I found you can get IDIS (the parent company) mguard in the Mac App Store which works!

 

On my iPhone 5 the Securix Client works ok.

 

Some questions if anyone knows:

 

- Is there anyway to enable telnet or ssh?

- Are there any hidden URL's for snapshots etc.

 

I am pretty happy so far.

Had a response from support@mysecurix.com - I asked:

Unfortunately the answer was No.

I thought of a creative way of addressing this with a Raspberry Pi with a AV-in usb adapter and connecting to the video out of the SME4… not pretty but would serve a purpose.

 

Anyone else sorted this or perhaps compromised on quality and used rtsp?

Hi there, I recently bought one of these too. I was hoping to view the camera feeds using VLC. I don't suppose you know what the rtsp path is do you? I've tried rtsp://ipaddress . I get a username password prompt but no picture. I guess there is more to the url?

NOTE: You can access a remote DVR and monitor live video images using the media players like VLC Player supporting the RTSP service. Start the media player on your local PC and enter “rtsp://ID:Password@IP address:RTSP port number/‘channel number’”, or start Internet Explorer on your Blackberry or other mobile devices and enter “http://IP address: Webguard port number/”.

Thanks for that. I should have rtfm

 

I tried rtsp://ID:Password@IP address:RTSP port number/‘channel number’ but couldn't get it to work. I eventually looked at the html source code on the webguard login page and the working rtsp path is:

 

rtsp://ID:Password@IP address:RTSP port number/trackID=channel number

 

I guess they changed it since they wrote the manual.

No problem and good spot on the change.

Do you notice any major quality difference with enabling rtsp as it seems to disallow full D1 resolution.

Hi,

 

This is a new setup so haven't tried anything other than having rtsp enabled. The quality doesn't seem too bad in comparison to other ip cameras I've used.

I've noticed a blue cast on the images when it's sunny. Have you noticed this? It happens on all the cameras. Is there a brightness or contrast setting anywhere that you know off?

It's ok, i've found it. It can be adjusted from the WebGuard login.

 

I'll play around with the image settings to see if I can improve it.
