yerpo 0 Posted September 10, 2013 Hi All, first time poster here, but have been reading like crazy for the last week. I have installed a HFW2100, and while the camera works great....I cannot get the ball mount to be very tight. It is snug and holds its position for the most part, but seems that its still too lose. I cannot position it precisely as it will slightly drop when I let go. I have tightened the big Philips set screw as much as I can, and have also tightened the 4 allen bolts. Am I missing something here? I took the mount apart and see there is two collars inside the shaft. Not sure how it all works. I searched the entire internet for an answer, and haven't really found anything except one other account, but I hope that I don't have to send the camera back for exchange if it's something simple. Thanks!
buellwinkle 0 Posted September 10, 2013 Besides the 4 screws that hold the 2 halves of the shaft, there's another allen screw on the opposite side that you tighten down to hold better. Not the best system I've used, but it holds the monster sized HFW3200C and never had a problem for it holding the HFW2100.
yerpo 0 Posted September 10, 2013 Thank you for the reply. Besides the 4 allen screws that hold the two halves together, I only see a large Phillips screw and nothing else! Those small pin holes are nothing, just holes. I wrapped the ball with some electrical tape to tighten it up. here are some pics.
buellwinkle 0 Posted September 11, 2013 Yes, sorry, the Philips set screw is what tightens this by spreading the pieces inside. On other Dahua bullets it's an Allen screw. But I feel you pain. I resorted to drilling one of their larger bullets and putting a piece of metal to keep it rigid when it wouldn't tighten anymore.
MaxIcon 0 Posted September 12, 2013 Mine needs to have the phillips screw cranked down pretty tight before all the slop in the mount is gone. The 3200C has a hex screw, which is a lot easier to tighten securely than the phillips.
yerpo 0 Posted September 12, 2013 The electrical tape was too slippery. I wrapped it with some painters tape - maybe not the best to use as far as weather/etc - but it is holding tight now. Now that I understand how the ball joint works, I tried to adjust it with the set screw tight and it marred the ball and took off some paint - making it a looser fit. I received 2 more today, hopefully they are better.
