Remote Speed vs Image Quality Challenge

Hello,

I've been very satisfied with my Hikvision DVR (analog). No problems connecting remotely. But when I enhance the image using the android app. on my phone, the image becomes very clear, but eventually the FPS slow down until it freezes.

 

Could this a speed problem with my Linksys router?

My Verizon high speed DSL?

or my cell phone carrier Mr. T

 

Where do I start?

Probably more so you are saturating your uplink pipe, its likely only 64 or 128KB.

When you "enhance" the image on your phone with iVMS-4500 you are switching from substream to main stream. If the video feed becomes laggy, that means your main stream recording resolution is higher than your internet upload bandwidth.

 

If your main stream is 1024kbps and your substream is 128kbps, watching the lower quality will be fine. Maybe you can even watch 4 cameras at the same time (128x4=512kbps) and it wil be smooth. But if you change to the main stream, you will start droping frames.

 

In short, you need to know your upload bandwidth in order to correctly configure how you watch from outside.
