pvansh 0 Posted September 19, 2013 I'm a newbie so I apologize if this has been discussed. I searched but didn't find anything that answered my question. I am planning on purchasing a Dahua NVR and IP cameras. I already have a PoE switch, do I need a PoE NVR or will the switch be good enough? Will the NVR be able to find and manage/display the cameras if they are not directly connected to the device itself? I'm just concerned the NVR may not "see" the cameras if they are connected to the switch rather than the NVR PoE ports. Thanks in advance!
shockwave199 0 Posted September 19, 2013 How many cameras will you be using, and how many POE ports does your switch have- powered ports I mean? Yes, the NVR will find them on your network if your switch can handle all your cameras. You can get an NVR with some POE ports to handle some of the load, or you can get a bigger switch to handle it, if you expand down the line.

That's all I needed to know. My switch has 12 PoE ports and I'll probably only have 4-5 cameras.
