cwm123 0 Posted October 10, 2013 I'm struggling with poor night image quality from my Lorex/Hikvision bullet cameras. As you can see in the first video below, the camera has a lot of noise and just generally poor image quality -- a daytime clip is at the end of the video. Compared to a the second video which is a Hikvision DS-2CD2332-I, the image is virtually noise free. I've fiddled with the camera settings and have become very good at making the image worse, but not better. Hoping someone here can offer me some insights on whether this is fixable or if I need different cameras in this location. yYUn1i4vwoA t2AKCuVgNR8
buellwinkle 0 Posted October 10, 2013 Could just be light reflection, meaning the flat back alsphalt does not reflect as well as the decking materials and as well defined close object to reflect the light on the other camera. Have you tried swapping the camera locations?
JoeyJoey 0 Posted October 11, 2013 Camera2 is in a lighter location. Camera1 looks very dark. Put noise reduction on both cameras to 100%. Disable WDR.
voip-ninja 0 Posted October 11, 2013 I don't think there's anything wrong. You need external illumination (IR or white light) for the 1st camera. To prove it, swap the camera locations.
MaxIcon 0 Posted October 11, 2013 Cam 1 has the typical low-light Hik image, with those lines of noise. This is the main weakness in this camera. Are both of them set at the same max exposure time? The Hik looks a lot better in low light with a longer exposure, but this causes motion blur and can reduce frame rate.
cwm123 0 Posted October 14, 2013 Thanks for all the feedback; was hoping for a quick insight on something I was being dense about ... so I could avoid the moving of cameras for testing. But seems like some side by side testing is in order. Will post those results, hopefully this week! Thanks again for all the suggestions.
MaxIcon 0 Posted October 14, 2013 When doing side by side testing, be aware of the combined IR output of multiple cams. My first tests of the Hiks had much better night images because I was comparing side by side with a Dahua (IR always on in the dark), and the Dahua IR combined with the Hik IR gave both cams much better images than they would have had by themselves.
