Small Business System Design Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am attempting to set up a decent security system.

I would ideally like to have the following:

* 3 inside cameras

* 3-4 outdoor camera with at least some level of night vision (or IR?)

* 2 IP wireless cameras (cables will not reach and can not be run to) To watch two out buildings.

* ability to monitor with android (not a hard req of the system, as long as the dvr or main box can be connected to the LAN)

I do not need to watch it on a tv.

I am considering using ispy with this system.

I see there are some good deals at Costco and home depot on some systems. Now before saying that all this is "crap" (which it may or may not be haha!) Please keep in mind I am trying to do this on a budget. of around 500$. I know that this is very small for a good system, but there must be some middle of the road system between what is being deemed as crap and what is very very expensive.

Thank you greatly!

Ok, while I fully understand working on a budget I need to make sure you understand that the purpose of using CCTV systems is to acquire usable evidence that can be turned over to police/ lawyers for prosecution. 99% of those super budget systems are not going meet that goal.

If you just want to see a VERY general overview of activity without any intent of using it for catching bad guys doing bad things then go for it. If you want to use this for it's actual purpose I would suggest look very hard ant increasing that budget. I would also STRONGLY recommend that you look at cameras with varifocal lenses. That by itself massively increases your ability to get that usable evidence I mentioned before. The cheapest varifocal cameras I know of (that would do what I am saying here) are about $89 each. So if you do that math of $89 x the 9 cameras you mentioned that is $801. The DVR will cost appx. $450-500 plus you still need wireless gear for your two out buildings which is probably another $150 each. By the way, I never even mentioned the cables, connectors, and a power supply to make all of this gear work. Let's say you bought pre-made cables for each camera, that is another $75-100 for cables and $40ish for a half decent power supply.

Using these figures your budget needs to be more like $1700. That is the number where you will get a system that truly provides benefits to your business.
