Hikvision Power Over Ethernet

Recommended Posts

I am interested in getting one of the new Hikvision cameras (DS-2CD2632F-I). It says that it is POE compatible - does this mean that all I need to get is a POE switch or injector, and run the ethernet cable to the camera? Do I need to use a splitter at the end of the cable, to obtain the power - or will everything work over just the cable?

PoE means Power over Ethernet, just one cable connects the camera to your network and powers it. You'll need to inject power into the cable, normal routers and switches do not do this, so you either need a PoE switch or a PoE injector. If you plan on having more than one camera, a PoE switch makes sense.
