krahuk 0 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi, We have a farm where we would like to install IP CCTVs. 1) The farm’s circumference is 3.5 Kms. 2) Server room will be in the central location of the farm. 3) CCTVs need to be installed at various locations. (30 - 40 Nos) For the above scenario, 1) Can we connect NVR to switches and switches to IP cameras? 2) Can I use Cat6 cable with POE for connecting NVR, switches and IP cameras? 3) The distance between NVR and switch can be upto 600 meters. What is the distance limit for Cat6 cable? If I have to conver 600 meters what kind of devices need to be used in between NVR and switch to extend the distance. 4) What type of switch need to be used? Thanks,
SectorSecurity 0 Posted December 2, 2013 First off lets start with some basics, number one being the distance limitation as per the standards on ethernet is 100M or 300FT, I have seen it go to 400 or so feet fine, depending on interference and other factors, but I doubt you will get it to 600FT. You could install multiple switches to cover the distance, or go fiber the choice is yours. Next, you will need a router, most switches are layer 2 and handle MAC addressing, they do not hand out IP addresses, you need a router to handle this for you. You can use any type of switch you want, but I would suggest getting a POE switch and connecting your cameras to that, or you are going to have to buy POE injectors. If you don't want to daisy chain switches you can use range extenders, however these are usually costly, so switches would be your best bet. I would suggest you hire someone to draft up the plans for you, then you can decide if you want to undertake a project or this extent.
