bosko303 0 Posted December 1, 2013 newb question here...I just got my first IP cams, a hikvision and messoa. I want to set these two cams up to record and also send an email alert on motion detection. Both these cams have inbuilt software that can do the monitoring and send an email alert while my NAT will handle the video storage. I had a look at some NVR software but what I can't understand is why would I want to constantly stream my IP cam feeds to my server, using up bandwidth, and also having the NVR software using up CPU power when I can just to all the processing at the cams themself. Am I missing something here?
buellwinkle 0 Posted December 1, 2013 Yes, doesn't make sense, so get NVR software that allows the camera to do the video motion detection and such. Common ones are Milestone, Exacq and Avigilon. These tend to start at $50/camera on up. The best value is the Milestone XProtect Go, free with limitations like 8 cameras and 5 days of recording are the biggest limitations. thewireguys 3 Posted December 2, 2013 Even if you use a VMS platform your cameras will still stream 24/7 to your server which is totally normal.
