mvasquez2556 0 Posted December 11, 2013 Hello, We have a client that wants a single camera inside of two elevators. We have received a quote from the elevator company to run the wire necessary for each camera, we were quoted at $47,000 for both. Absolutely ridiculous. Upon inspection they have 4 spare 18ga wires inside of each elevator. These wires were going to be used as part of the access control system, but never were. The wires go from the elevator to the elevator control room. My question is, can we successfully transmit video over these 18ga wires. We do also have 110v in the elevator so power over this distance will not be an issue. Just video transmission. Extra Information: The building is 15 stories. tomcctv 190 Posted December 11, 2013 we were quoted at $47,000 for both. hi. did you ask them to check price ??? The wires go from the elevator to the elevator control room. My question is before you do any work on a lift first request permission from lift company 9 out of 10 lift is in total hands of lift company (there own liability insurance). they could charge you 47k for them to remove your equipment
mvasquez2556 0 Posted December 13, 2013 Yes, the price is accurate. We are not going to dive into an elevator, it will take coordinating with the elevator company. My question was if anyone thought if we could have good video signal over a 18ga braided untwisted pair of wire.
David Nicola 0 Posted January 16, 2014 Yea you can do it as long as you have a pair for each camera. 1 for power and 1 for video transmission. just get a couple UTP converters and slap them on each end. just make sure to ohm out all the cables before you send power through them. thanks
survtech 0 Posted January 17, 2014 You also may be able to put a power cube on the top of the elevator. Many have outlets there and it would save you a pair in the stringer cable. You should be able to use one pair for video but be aware it might be noisy. UTP transmission requires twisted pairs, preferably with a high number of twists per foot. Elevator stringer cables have little-to-no twists in their pairs and adjacent cables can carry relatively high voltages and electrical noise which will get into the signal. The key advantage to twisted-pair cables is that each wire receives an approximately equal amount of interference which is cancelled out by adding the signals out of phase. Untwisted pairs will tend to have different amounts of noise on each wire so the result won't be totally cancelled out by the balun or active receiver. One possibility might be to use an IP camera and send the stream through an EoUTP adapter.
hardwired 0 Posted January 17, 2014 One possibility might be to use an IP camera and send the stream through an EoUTP adapter. We are doing this now at a large hospital, using Planet brand VDSL converter pairs, and Avigilon cameras. It's working quite well. We originally had analog cameras on UTP converters, and it was a very noisy image.
