Non permanent mounting options?

Recommended Posts

I use camera mount clamps in a lot of situations. These cams don't have standard screw mount threads, but with the right platform you can use cable ties or similar to hold them.

I cabled tied a webcam to a tripod and leaned it against a viewport the other day to record plasma processing on a troublesome tool.

I also use bungee cords sometimes, depending on how critical stability is.

What kind of platform?

Look at the various clamps available and the base for the camera, and find something that would let you tighten the camera against it with cable ties or whatever works.

For instance, if you took this:

or this:

and used cable ties through the camera base mounting holes to secure it to the clamp body, you'd be able to remove it from whatever it's on.

If the mount point isn't wide enough for stability, make a piece the size of the camera base from wood or sheet metal, add a nut that works with the standard camera screw mount, and mount the camera to it. You could also use this on a tripod.

Unfortunately, none of the mid-range cams seem to have screw mounts any more. This greatly limits the flexibility of mounting solutions, but that's the way they roll these days.

Here's another big assortment.

If you went with ACTi cameras like the D32 or E32 as an example, you would have tripod mounts. Then you can use any tripod or device made for regular cameras. I used to do reviews with the cameras mounted on tripods but most new cameras are coming with integrated mounts.

Yeah, I know, but ACTi cams cost twice as much as Hikvision and I don't see their image quality being twice as good.

Seems that those quick fists are the best solution for me. Now I have to find out where I can get them in my country.
