NVR Software / Server for 32 Ch. IP Camera System

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been reading through the 'starter' page, and this forum for a while. This forum is a great resource!

We are currently putting together an Indoor/Outdoor camera system. We're using Enxun MIP-722A and MIP-812A cameras. These are powered by a Cisco 3560 Unmanaged POE switch.

The video from a camera on it's own looks great. The picture is definitely not reflected in the price, but we'll see how they last outdoors after a while. The NVR provided by Enxun is very sluggish, so we're beginning to look at other options there.

The switch is located ~150 ft. from the building's entrance. At the entrance, we have 1x small customer-facing display with 1x camera's image shown on this. We'd like to have another larger display in the entrance area that rotates between the cameras, say 8-16 on screen at a time.

The small screen is currently driven by a cheap/small NVR system. Ideally this will be replaced with some sort of HDMI dongle.

For the large / main display, would we be better off with a 150 ft run of Cat5 + converters to drive a display down there? Or are there solutions available that would allow us to use a small HDMI dongle, or Raspberry PI to drive that? My worry is that it won't be able to handle processing video from all the cameras. On this display, we'd like to be able to zoom in, check into recordings from the day before, etc.

Is there anything out there for those on a budget, who'd like to do a few things:

- Could potentially tie into an alarm system at a later point.

- Could sent emails / some sort of contact upon movement detection between set hours.

- Ideally power efficient, for use on battery backup.

- Records on motion only, to save space.

- Mobile control would be nice (iOS)

Are we best off storing inside a computer system, or in a separate NAS (or NVR storage system). Has anyone had issue using RAID systems with video recording?

Thanks!
