CobraGuy 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Hello all, A friend of mine told me to check this website and ask for help from all of you. I need a wireless camera setup with the following: 1 color camera for front porch (which has efficient light), 1 low-lux black and white camera for back yard, and 1 indoor camera to look into great room. I would like the cameras set up for motion activated recording onto a DVR system or digital recorder. Internet access is not a requirement. I really do not want to hard wire these cameras and that is why I'm trying to get wireless. I will figure out the power situation when I get the cameras. I'l like to spend $700 or less for this setup. Is this possible and where do I look to get this setup? X10 has a bunch of stuff but not sure if that is the right way to go as far as quality of product. Sorry for the long post, but really need some help. Thanks in advance. Jasper 0 Posted January 11, 2006 X10 wireless camera are junk, don’t waste your money. They use cheap everything on those. They are always having a sale. They inflate the price sky high so they make you think you are getting a deal. If you go with wireless and you get interference it will cause a lot of noise in the picture and drastically increase your storage needs. Hopefully the wireless experts will chime in to help you with the right setup. Wireless is great if you can get it to work for you.
rapid 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Based on your budget and interference, I would rethink wired cameras. 1. Wireless systems are expensive considering you would like three cameras thus 3 seperate video channel tx's and 3 video channel rx's. Wired cameras are more economical, easy to install and can be discrete. 2. Power is always a concern for wireless systems, although you mentioned you had a plan for power. Wireless video but hardwired power? 3. Video motion is not a good idea for wireless cameras. RF interference or fading in and out of video channels (no change in camera view) will trigger the video motion. 4. Digital recording of wireless video can produce unusable video when you review, especially if you have RF interference. I'm not putting wireless video down, just identifying challenges you will have if you install a multiple camera wireless system. We've installed many high end wireless systems in various applications, however they can run in the $15K range. Videocomm has some 2.4 Ghz 4 channel systems you can look at. http://www.videocommtech.com/ Cheers.....Rapid
Jasper 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Also when using a wireless cameras at 2.4 GHz you need to be concerned about interference from wireless routers and also phone systems that use that frequency. And like what was said above your motion detection will be going off all the time causing you to record video which is worthless. Sounds like a wired system is better for you with that budget. rory 0 Posted January 11, 2006 not to mention trying to push that wireless signal through a concrete wall with steel in it, or an AC duct, etc etc ... just doesnt working inside a home .. best to go hard wired ... wireless needs Line of sight. Cell phone used to trigger interference on the COP usa stuff i used once a few years back and eventually through in the garbage ..
CobraGuy 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Hello again, You have me convinced to wired. But what brand do I use? Are there any good websites you guys order stuff off of? Thanks again. Mike
RVRBOY420007 0 Posted January 11, 2006 3 good cameras alone will cost you $700 or one decent wireless transmitter/receiver. I do have a one camera wireless kit but it can only use one channel for around $
