onlinejames 0 Posted January 14, 2014 camera stopped working plugged it in and out of the dvr worked again for 2 days now nothing from dvr it has balun to solid core cat cable to balun to camera 24v cameras running separate power camera is good tested it on another line, tried changing baluns with known working ones, all working tried changing the wires in the cat cable and even doubling up, still have no camera is it possible the cable has gone bad, its been indoors and never moved for last month at least that was only to plug it in and out of the dvr in 2 years only moved 3 or 4 times but only marginally, can a cable go bad for no reason how could i test it or fix this, can i just put rj connectors on each end and test with a tester ? Kawboy12R 0 Posted January 14, 2014 Good idea on adding the ends and using a tester. Solid stranded utp wire can be brittle and break inside, especially if it was manhandled a bit beforehand.
