habusho 0 Posted January 16, 2014 I wanted to purchase a class 3 POE switch for my upcoming 8 ACTI cameras. We also happen to have 3 VoIP telephones in the office that could use POE. After doing research, I've found this 24 Port Cisco model seems to suit my needs and I also love the fact that it has a lifetime warranty. I think this model is also fanless but I'm not sure. Anybody use these guys before?
AdamDaze 0 Posted January 16, 2014 Cisco is a reputable brand that generally does what it says on the box, and has great support.
ssnapier 0 Posted January 16, 2014 I have three of those in the field right now and they are great. The management is pretty easy to navigate and the switch is relatively quiet if that matters.
habusho 0 Posted January 16, 2014 The other option would be to buy 2 Netgear GS110TPs. The Cisco 24 port isn't fanless I've realized.
habusho 0 Posted January 16, 2014 My camera manufacturer's sales rep recommended this Intellinet 16 port switch: http://www.intellinet-network.com/en-US/products/6845-16-port-fast-ethernet-rackmount-poe-switch# *Update I guess that model has been discontinued as this is the new version: http://www.intellinet-network.com/en-US/products/9693-16-port-fast-ethernet-poe-switch
thewireguys 3 Posted January 16, 2014 We have used a lot of the SF300 POE switches and now have moved on to HP Procurve. If you want support from Cisco be prepared to pay for a support contract
ssnapier 0 Posted January 17, 2014 If you want support from Cisco be prepared to pay for a support contract Fair point, but my support contract paid for itself overnight. We had a switch take a power hit, and literally smoke out a telco closet. I had a Cisco rep on site and helping me swap out the unit for a new one in 90 minutes. Depending on the importance of the circuit, that might be worth it to your customer.

AdamDaze 0 Posted January 20, 2014 Would a sf-300 be enough to cope with 12x 3mp cameras? Just thinking of saturating the link back to your main network / comp. Does it have a gigabit port?
habusho 0 Posted January 21, 2014 I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this switch actually after doing a ton of research: http://www.smc-asia.com/microsite/smart_switch_web/smcgs18p_smart.html It only has a 1 year warranty but the AmEx corp card will add another year to that making it 2 years... habusho 0 Posted January 24, 2014 Where from? And what price? I purchased it from Amazon.com. I'll have it installed in the next couple of weeks and I'll let you all know how it goes. It seems to have a lot more power available than the Cisco and it's more flexible.

ssnapier 0 Posted January 25, 2014 Btw. does anybody know a good CCTV installer in Los Angeles? I was in L.A. all week! Just got back to Maryland last night. I have only dealt with one company out there, and you can find them at http://cctv-losangeles.com/ The website looks cheesy, but they do good work.
