ny2pit 0 Posted January 23, 2014 Hi All, Have a new condo, was prewired for one camera drop with a siamese BNC+power connection to a location for a front-door camera. Have done a lot of reading about the various options, old style BNC vs. newer IP. I'd love to eventually have a multi-camera setup, but for now going to start with just one. Since I have this BNC line already run, can someone recommend an reasonable camera to start with? Looking on ebay/amazon, there are LOTS of $30-60 cameras that I'm sure are of questionable quality. Would like to stay under say $200 if possible, get reasonable coverage of the front door and the driveway right behind it day and night. Can anyone make some suggestions that would work for this setup (i.e. non-IP) Thanks!
ssnapier 0 Posted January 27, 2014 I would look for something with a varifocal lens and at least 600TVL. Also, make sure it lists an IP66 rating since it will be outdoors. A lot of the cameras in the range you are looking at are all just re-branding each other. You will also need a power supply for this camera, a monitor to view it and a DVR to record the images. If just want to view it live with no recording, then no DVR is required. You could also look at HD-SDI camera if you want a bit better image quality, but those cameras are going to be pushing right up to your budget limit. I have a few different brands I could show you, but I don't want to break the forum rules. PM me if you want to discuss this further.
