IP Camera Systems

PTZ protocols don't need drivers, they aren't handled as hardware but as a serial port protocol. The converter is just changing the wireing, it isn't changing the signal at all.

Your not going to get a card that does anything better then mpeg4 for a reasonable price. I'd even be suspicious of people saying they have mpeg4 in hardware for under a thousand. But why do it in hardware, if you can offload it to a much cheaper CPU?

You'll probley want to avoid flash, it's slow as heck to write and rewrite and you'll want some swap space. Those little toshiba drives that Apple uses in thier iPods would probley be better and allow you to store some video. Unless you're going to require NAS, at which point you'll want two ethernet cards, at least one doing gigabit in, and one doing 100 mb in for the NAS.

Even with an embeded system, 128 isn't going to cut it. You'll need at least 256. Even with a small kernel, you'll need a decent web server program and it doesn't take much for them to eat resources. Apache will probley work but you'll need mod perl for any kind of active side scripting. (Sure you can use PHP but it's notoriously insecure. And with perl you have the advantage of no one understanding a single line of your code.)

And if this sounds expensive...you haven't even begun to look at the R&D costs, the software development prices, the "that should work yet it won't work" costs....

Forgive my responce. As someone who represents a company I work with a fine line. It wouldn't take much for my postings to start edging into the realm of spam. It tends to annoy me when I see others cross that line. My apology was a bit out of line with the offense. However, please just ask questions like that in just one forum, rather then more then one. I assure you, if someone has a relavent reply they will reply to it.

iPix has been around for a long time, and offer great products, particularly in Panoramic viewing of images and virtual tour software. Not having tested the product you mention, though I am sure they will rise to the occasion.

Astroturf is a "fake" grass that is used in the US for indoor arenas. It's a plastic that is simular in traction to real grass.

Astroturfing is the concept of a fake grassroots campain. Word of mouth is the best advertisement there is, so marketing people attempt to make "fake" word of mouth to generate intrest. So instead of being a whole bunch of real people promoting a product, it's someone connected with the product doing it.

I have to agree with Thomas on this one. mk has a link to url of the company he is inquiring about in his profile so why would he have to make the post sound as if he needs information. If you need information just walk down the hall and ask.

If it is your company, or you work for the company, just post that you have a product that may solve a persons problem. His post(s) are obviously marketing related. I mean, at least be smart about it mk and remove the darn link from your profile before you post.

One day we'll have to come up with some guidelines about this that would be fair for all.

Hi Larry

An easy way would probably have a classified forum. In this case he was posting the same links in several forums and some not in reply to others. With a classified forum that would be the only place to place ads.

Hey Rory,

I like that idea. As to not trash this thread, I may ask some questions about it in the cctvforum forum.

thanks

Gents,

I didn't meen to cause such a stir. It wasn't the case of marketing or trying to be clever if that was the case you are right i would of not included the ipix url within my personel profile.

However it was the case of asking a group of profesional cctv specialists with many years of experience between them, there expert opinion of a new product within the market place.

As a novice within forums i apologise once again of my lack of knowledge of the forum critera. in regards to the multiple postings it wasn't the case of marketing spam but a case of trying to provide a possible solution as many people still have the impresion of ipix being a imersive still photography instead of a cctv solution. Whilst gaining some profesional opinion of the product.

Regards to all

MK
