perebrine 0 Posted February 7, 2014 Hi, I'm new here my name is John. I've got a CCTV recording system it has 4 cameras. I bought it from Maplins a couple of years ago, the make is CNM Secure. I'm happy with what I got, I keep Birds of prey & use the cameras in my breeding enclosure, the only thing missing is any sound. There are 4 points & I "Audio out". Hopefully I've attached a picture. Can please let me know what I need to add sound. Can I just buy a microphone & the correct leads & just plug them in, if so what type etc. Thanks in advance. aibudo 0 Posted February 7, 2014 There are numerous CCTV mikes and cameras with built-in mikes. Get a good CCTV mike (hopefully with a built in amp) and plug it in to the corresponding numbered jack as the camera you are wanting to monitor. Then make sure that the recording setting for that camera has audio enabled.
perebrine 0 Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks for the reply, Please excuse my ignorance, most of the CCTV mikes I see advertised have 2 leads a White (Audio?) & a Red (Power), do I need one that needs power or will my DVR supply the power when I plug the lead in? Where is the best place to buy what I need.? There are numerous CCTV mikes and cameras with built-in mikes. aibudo 0 Posted February 7, 2014 The one plug is for 12V power and the other is for the audio.
shockwave199 0 Posted February 8, 2014 You'd need this type of cable, which has RCA adapters included. You put the RCA adapters on each end of the cable into the BNC's. The microphone RCA plugs into the side out by the birds. At the DVR, the RCA plugs into any of the channels 1-4. Of course the microphone power will hookup to the power adapter part of the cable out by the birds and at the dvr side, a 12V 1A power adapter will power the the microphone. The cable- http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Video-Power-Security-Cameras/dp/B000P8X65S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391828478&sr=8-2&keywords=rca+power+cable The power adapter- http://www.amazon.com/Power-Adapter-Supply-2-1mm-CCTV/dp/B00452YFZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391828994&sr=8-1&keywords=12v+power+adapter The microphone, only for indoor or sheltered areas- http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Sensitive-External-Amplified-Microphone/dp/B0053V5Z9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391829099&sr=8-1&keywords=cctv+microphone If the area is not sheltered from the elements, this mic could hold up better mounted facing down I would think and bonus, it comes with a power adapter- http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Microphone-Surveillance-Monitoring-A91/dp/B00826ZM4S/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1391829099&sr=8-13&keywords=cctv+microphone The audio OUT on the DVR would hookup to powered speakers so you can hear the live audio, and also the audio on the recorded files. Before you do anything though, does the cable you ran for your cameras have an unsed RCA hookup on each end? If so, you have the cable to do this in place already. Then you'd just need the mic and power supply.
perebrine 0 Posted February 8, 2014 Thank you for this, I checked my cameras & there is no spare cable. I think what was confusing me was, I'd forgotten there was a power cable to the cameras, for some reason I thought it was just one cable, instead of the 2, it kind of makes sense now. jeromephone 6 Posted February 8, 2014 Go to the ETS website they have what you need specifically for cctv and the cost is very reasonable. THey have a kit designed for cameras with audio in and out. We have used them for a police interview room and they work well
