ov10mech 0 Posted February 25, 2014 When shopping for a new system I see some come with Coax / BNC wiring and some are network cable based (CAT5/6) . Is the camera industry moving away from Coaxial? I would think CAT5 is much easily to run in the walls . I am worried about being able to upgrade cameras in the future without having to re-pull wire. ssnapier 0 Posted February 25, 2014 CAT-5/6 just gives you more options. You can migrate to IP cameras down the road far easier with CAT-5/6 already in place. The only time I use coax now for analog systems in on extremely long runs.
varascope 0 Posted February 25, 2014 Not entirely true, Coax has more options and a higher throughput at longer distances. Unless you using baluns, network cable have the distance limitation of 328ft before needing a repeater. Using coax and HDCVI for example 1500ft.
ssnapier 0 Posted February 25, 2014 Yeah I failed to mention the distance limit... thanks for adding that.
ov10mech 0 Posted February 25, 2014 Thanks for the thoughts. I am well within the distance limitation.
