Can not get email to work on GPRO8 DVR

Hello I have a GPRO8 DVR that I can not get the email feature to work. I have access to my DVR over the internet and my iphone. My internet provider is Comcast and I have an Apple Extreeme router. I use gmail and have it setup for port 587 with my gmail information. When I test it I get "Can't connect to SMTP server" Does anyone have any ideal of what is preventing email?

If you figure it out, let everybody on this forum know what you did. I'm in the business, am using Comcast internet, and even though I'm not using your make and model of DVR, have never been able to get it to work.
