Lanter214 0 Posted March 12, 2014 Hello, Im new to the forum and wanted to ask a few questions about Residential securtiy systems. Im looking to get one and want to go with HD 1080P cameras. Does anyone have videos of the difference between 7 frames/sec vs 30 frames/sec at night and day? I Know this will take up more space on the DVR Hard Drive but my guess is the extra frame rates are worth it. Also, How would you all rate CRC video solutions equipment? ssnapier 0 Posted March 12, 2014 The real answer is that unless there is fast movement (faster than a human running) 7 frames a second is more than adequate for nearly all use cases. The other factor I generally take into consideration is the are being viewed. If it is an extremely small space (less than 15 feet wide typically), I might opt for a higher frame rate just to catch any super fast movement.

buellwinkle 0 Posted March 12, 2014 To give you an idea, we try and capture license plates on cars moving up to 40mph and we set that camera to 4fps and we get multiple images of plates. To get reasonably smooth video, I would not go less than 10fps. For run of the mill security where you are not going to enter the video a film festival, 6-7 would be pretty adequate, even with moving cars.
the toss 0 Posted March 13, 2014 I also like to stick to about 10 fps
shockwave199 0 Posted March 13, 2014 With my 8 channel analog system at home and with motion detection, I do D1 30fps. With 2 megapixel at constant bit rate @ 4096, 15fps seems to be the magic number - especially for people who still want to feel as though they're watching full fps playback. cbodbyl 0 Posted March 13, 2014 Heres a short tutorial and demo video I shot so people can see the difference during playback. http://zeecure.com/tutorials/fps-tutorial-and-demo-video/ Choose your frame rate based on the speed of objects moving through the scene, not how smooth you want it to look during playback. Remember, the difference between 5 FPS and 10 FPS is double the storage.
