venturis 0 Posted March 17, 2014 The European web site has V5.1.2_140116 firmware available for download. Among the new features listed in the release notes is the curious statement "Chinese firmware IP camera will not be able to connect to iVMS4200". This worries me a little as it appears that Hikvision might be trying to delineate between its Chinese based Raptor series cameras and the European/US sourced camera's. I have a set up with 4 x 2CD3332 cameras recording with a PC based NVR running iVMS4200. I hope I'm wrong but hopefully someone will post a link to the v5.1.2 Chinese IP camera firmware on this forum soon.
steuk 0 Posted March 17, 2014 I don't know if there is a link, but the factory I work with told me last time I order that now all hikvision camera they sell are English version (it was about 2 weeks ago). About your problem, just don't upgrade now, they should upgrare iVMS4200 too. So don't worry (but easy for me to say that since I use my Synology as NVR). Byt the way, the "features" don't seem that useful...: NewChinese firmware IP camera will not be able to connect to iVMS4200 Modify the capability set of capture mode. In XML, indexical and indexless capture modes are both offered. SDK is modified in accordance Remove the capability of manual white balance Add sub-stram resolution of QVGA [*]Improvement The image effect in night is optimized
MaxIcon 0 Posted March 17, 2014 [*]Improvement The image effect in night is optimized This one could be worthwhile if it's a real improvement.
steuk 0 Posted March 18, 2014 This one could be worthwhile if it's a real improvement. I'm not expecting a real improvement (since image in night is already pretty good), and I need to see a real difference with a before/after picture. I think I'll wait for better features (motion detection accuracy for example or at leat being able to set it with a custom value not only 0-20-40-60-80-100). Brenning 0 Posted March 22, 2014 Tried this on one of my Chinese cams out of curiosity. Once upgraded (had to use TFTP) the camera is all in Chinese with no option to change it to English (drop down box at logon has no English setting). Word of warning - Unless anyone knows a way to fix this without downgrading?
CBX 0 Posted March 23, 2014 Word of warning - Unless anyone knows a way to fix this without downgrading? You either need to change values in flash (which as far as I know no one has attempted due to the risk to your camera) or use my patch to alter a few bytes within the camera control app davinci. You either need to change values in flash (which as far as I know no one has attempted due to the risk to your camera) or use my patch to alter a few bytes within the camera control app davinci. I'll give that a shot and post back if it works. Quick question, once I've edited the davinci file and zipped it, how do I get it back to the camera? I'm running Windows Server 2012 and telnet to the camera. Sorry for the basic question, I specialise in networking on Windows platforms - Linux isn't something I'm used to. CBX 0 Posted March 23, 2014 The patch is designed for 5.1 so might need some alteration on 5.12 (probably just a different place which you could search for with a hex editor). To put it back, place it on your server share and copy it into /dav within telnet on the camera. Or you could put it on an SD card if applicable for your camera. Or use ftpget. If this all sounds too technical - don't attempt it
Brenning 0 Posted March 23, 2014 Got it working, Camera now allows selection of multiple languages which includes English! Many thanks
buellwinkle 0 Posted March 23, 2014 Awesome. Was the hex string and location the same as on 5.1?
Brenning 0 Posted March 23, 2014 Was in the same file yeah, not sure if it was on exactly the same line or not (not done the change on anything other than 5.1.2). Will this file get over-written if I run further firmware updates on the same cam? i.e will I need to edit the davinci file again? Assuming Hikvision don't change anything to prevent us from doing this..
CBX 0 Posted March 24, 2014 Yes - flashing replaces davinci so any changes you make to it would need to be done again.
venturis 0 Posted March 24, 2014 So I wonder if this is a sign of things to come. I'd be very unhappy if Hikvision suddenly decided that Chinese sourced 2CD series camera were only going to be supported in Chinese language. I've bought 4 of these cameras so far and think they are outstanding value for money but I never expected that Hikvision would suddenly cripple the cameras to make them unusable beyond the previous firmware update. I was just about to place an order for another Chinese 2CD3332 on Aliexpress but I will have to rethink the purchase unless this turns out to be a mistake. I did read somewhere that Hikvision accidentally released a bunch of cameras with a test firmware that was in Chinese only. Is it possible this is the same firmware? By the way, did you notice any improvement on night time images as stated in the release notes?
CBX 0 Posted March 24, 2014 It's only the day of the week in Chinese - you can always turn it off which is what some people do. I came up with the patch as I didn't want to do that but I wouldn't be worried about future firmware releases.
buellwinkle 0 Posted March 24, 2014 In 5.1.2, all the menus are in Chinese, not just the day of week. You have to apply your fix to change this or go back to 5.1 or older. Frankly, for me, the most stable release so far is 5.0.2.
Brenning 0 Posted March 24, 2014 Can't say I've noticed any improvement with 5.1.2 but to be fair I didn't do a before and after screenshot due to the jpeg image URL not working for me. I've still got 4 cams to upgrade so might try and grab some screenshots locally. To confirm - the whole camera was in Chinese after 5.1.2 update without the drop down menu to change back to English - not just the day of the week which I normally turn off anyway
msecure 0 Posted March 25, 2014 I don't know how true is this but one of my supplier told me this:- As we know, Hikvision already start add special protocal in their firmware to protect their foreign market after CNY holiday, so very soon most chinese suppliers will not be able to offer Hikvision english products, as the chinese firmware ipc/ip ptz camera cannot be upgraded to English
buellwinkle 0 Posted March 25, 2014 But the sad part is that Hikvision USA only wants to sell to installers/integrators and not end users through resellers, so it's a conundrum. The alternative they proposed is OEM but the problem with OEM is the model lineup is limited.

buellwinkle 0 Posted March 25, 2014 Yes, it does work, just tried it on a 5.1.2 camera, all menus, day of week are in English. Let me put the stuff together and I'll post the screen shots and such to make it easy. Also, I'll post my davinci.tar.gz file so you won't need to hexedit, just ftp the file to the camera. klascctv 0 Posted March 25, 2014 What about support for iVMS-4200? It looks like from the notes it was disabled with 5.1.2 firmware.
buellwinkle 0 Posted March 26, 2014 You can stay on 5.1 or try 5.1.2 with the appropriate tweaks. When the tweaks are applied, the camera no longer appears Chinese. It should, at least in theory work with iVMS-4200. Try it, what do you have to lose.
rayt 0 Posted March 26, 2014 i got 2x DS-2CD2432F-IW built 3/2014 with the newest firmware apparently, all chinese, hope to get these tweaked out soon.
